Best Ado A20 electric bike UK: Review

Ado A20 electric bike UK: Review

Ado A20 electric bike review

Today, we are going to review the Adoshi folding electric bike, the Ado A20.

Before we begin our review, we will first discuss how and where best to use the Ado A20 electric bike UK edition and what its intended use is.

The Ado A20 is an all-terrain folding electric bike. This folding electric bike is small and built for urban transportation. Yes! an electric bike built specifically for urban transport within cities and the daily commute.

Because of the Ado A20 UK edition small and foldable frame. It’s convenient for; short to medium trips within your local town or city. Ado’s  standard Plus edition folding Electric bike, comes in two colour variations, black and white.

This UK edition of the Ado A20 has small difference from its EU version, which is primarily the use of the Throttle.

The EU version and the UK version both come with a throttle, but the UK Versions motor does not kick in until you are going at a speed of at least 6km/h. And only provides peddle assist.

Whereas the EU version of the Ado A20, allows users to use the throttle, without the need of pedalling, in terms of speed, both bikes have a 15.5mph speed cap.

In terms of age restrictions for using an electric bicycle, riders in the UK and EU must be at least 14 years old to ride peddle assisted ebikes. However, you do not need to have a licence or road tax to use your electric bike on UK roads.

Unboxing the Ado A20

One great thing about the way the Ado A20 is packaged is that it does not require a full build.

Yes! I said it. The Ado A20 comes partially built…  so, the set up process is fast and easy.

The Ado A20 is well packaged with protective padding, to ensure no damage during transit.  As no one would like the delivery of a half-broken electric bike.

The Ado A20 comes with a set of easy-to-understand instructions,  with handlebars partially attached by some electric cables.

Easy to assemble the Ado A20 UK edition

When assembling the ebike we firstly attached the bike stand which was simple. This ensured the bike could stand up while attaching the remaining parts.

After this, we then installed the battery which is self-explanatory as you simply need to click it in place. Then afterwards we ensured the handlebars was lined up and fixed securely.

After securing the handlebars, we then attached the saddles to the Ado A20’s frame. Before adjusting the front and back head lights. Then leaving the battery on charge.

The Ado A20 give users the option to charge the battery independently. This is a useful feature that the Ado A20 has if you decided to buy a backup battery for your electric bike.

Value for money

For pricing, the Ado A20 is cheap in comparison with other ebikes at just £1099. This makes it excellent value for money.

The Ado A20 has a net weight of 21kg. The Ado A20 is built to last, with a battery life of a minimum of 1000 recharge cycles. The design is also neat with no loose parts or wiring.

Even with the low-price range, this ebike does not feel like a budget ebike. Instead, this foldable ebike has a robust gearing system, a sturdy waterproof monitor with a strong frame ready for long or short journeys on various terrains, humps, and bumps.

The Ado A20 is a great folding electric bike, and when purchased from Emotis also comes with up to 12 months warranty.

Ado A20 best Features

The Ado A20 has some great features that makes this folding ebike the commuters’ choice. Firstly, the folding electric bike comes with a 7-speed Shimano gearset, the Ado a20 has a powerful 250w motor.

The hub motor is however 350w but capped to 250w due to UK regulations. So rest assured you have all the power and torque you need.

One amazingly great feature is the adjustable handlebars, this makes the Ebike great for users of all heights and sizes.

One major concern I had after unboxing the Ado A20 was the small size of the frame. But with the Ado A20 adjustable handlebars and seat I found this was not an issue, as my legs had enough room.

Favourite Features of Ado A20 folding electric bike UK

One of my favourite features about the Ado A20 electric folding ebike, is the built-in mobile phone charger. As I am sure we have all been on that long cycle where on the way back your phone goes dead. The Ado A20 solves this issue and allows you to charge your phone while you cycle.

The Ado A20 is easy to fold with its simplistic folding mechanism, which allows the sturdy frame to fold easily. The Ado A20 ebike also has foldable handlebars and peddles. This gives the ebike great foldability and can even fit in the back of an Aldi TT boot, and we all know how small those boots are. It also makes it very convenient for taking with you on public transport such as the train or tram.

Another notable feature of the Ado A20 is its dual disc brakes on the front and rear, these pristine brakes give you all the stopping power you need to ensure you are always in full control. The front and back disc brakes also give a more comfortable smooth braking system, in comparison to if the ebike only had a singular rear brake.

Unlike other bikes, the Ado A20 braking handle leavers are in the perfect position and distance for your hands, so you can comfortably switch between holding the handle bars and the break leavers. This is key for safety when using pedal assist ebikes which can reach speeds up to 25km/h.

Riding experience Of Ado A20 folding ebike UK edition

With its front shock absorption suspension fork, and the soft cushioned seat saddle, the Ado A20 rides comfortably. The Ado A20 is a mean transport machine, which lets you decide how much or how little effort you can put into your daily commute.

In terms of speed, the Ado A20 can go to speeds of up to 25km/h which is, 15.5 mph. It does however have an unlocked mode which enables the bike to travel speeds of up to 35km/h, which is 21.7mph.

In terms of travel distance, the Ado A20 electric bike UK edition has a powerful battery, which can last up to 80km in peddling assist mode according to Adoshi, which is around 50 miles, this shows the efficiency and power of the rear hub motor.

The electric bike does allow the unlock of the peddle assist to allow throttle-only mode, although this is likely to void your warranty, and reduce your distance of travel using the electric bike to 60km per charge which is approximately 40 miles.  But does however provide users with the opportunity to travel without the need of peddling.

When looking at the overall riding experience of the Ado A20, this ebike is an excellent choice for commuters, this is down to the simplistic folding features, and speed of the ebike. This makes it perfect for urban transportation, while not forgetting the other benefits like the flexibility in deciding how much or, how little you peddle. This makes the Ado ebike an excellent choice for traveling to work or general activities, that you would prefer not to break a sweat while doing.

Things I would change about the Ado A20 electric bike UK edition

The only real thing I would like to change about the Ado A20 is the hydraulic disc brakes instead of the mechanical ones. This is due to my personal preference of hydraulic disc braking systems, offering smoother braking in comparison to mechanical disc brakes. Although the difference in this case would be unnoticeable.

This is not a major issue for Ado’s A20 electric bike as the front fork shock absorption, combined with the saddle shock absorbers, provides users with a smooth ride.
